Positive-Displacement Principle
In a positive-displacement pipette, the piston moves directly inside
the capillary. Unlike an air-displacement pipette, there is no air
cushion between the piston and the liquid sample.
This reduces the influence of viscosity, vapour pressure, density and
temperature on the dispensed volume. At the same time, the liquid
remains contained within the disposable capillary-piston tip.
